PIXEL OVERS

Pixel overs are when you take a Sugimori picture, resize it to sprite size, and trace over it to make a sprite! But be warned! These sprites are pretty much scratching, you just have something to trace. I recommend practicing with other spriting before trying this.

Now, you must get a Sugimori or an anime Pokémon. A good place to get one of those is Pe2k. Here, we will use Poochyena as our Pokémon.

Okay, now we have to make this thing smaller. If you don't use MSPaint, resize it to about 60x60. Paint users go to Image --> Stretch/ Skew and a window will pop up. Set both stretch options to 50% and press OK. Now your little Pokémon is sprite size!

Now that you have a smaller image, you must outline it with bright colors that aren't in the Sugimori picture already. Once it is fully outlined, you may empty the inside of all color.

Yeah, um... I wouldn't imagine you want that little neon outline, right? So we'll be changing that neonness to a nice black, shall we?

Notice how I changed a few things to make it look better. You know, like a real sprite!

Now it's time to color! Get an official sprite of your Pokémon and create a palette of colors. For each color set, pick a base color and fill in the sprite.

Now, pick a spot where you're light is going to come from. Using that spot, determine where your shaded spots will be and shade them. Don't forget to use the darker colors for the outline!
