Icon Tutorial
This tutorial will tell you how to make something like this simple icon:
First, we need an icon base. I'll use this Full Metal Alchemist one (I know it's not pokemon but I'm sure you can live). I took the layer, duplicated it, and set it to hard light.
Now, I've added a texture from Reminiscent Designs, lightened it a bit with the Hue/Saturation menu (Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation), and set it to overlay.
Now to add a little wind effect. Make sure your foreground and background colors are set to the default black and white. Make a new layer, and go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Then, Filter>Pixelate>Mezzotint (set the menu in the window to 'fine dots') and lastly, Filter>Blur>Motion Blur. In the Motion Blur window, I have the angle set to 27, and the distance set to 10 pixels. After all this, you should have the first image below. Set the layer to Lighten and set the Opacity to 40%.
Next is the color. Add a new layer and set it to screen. Then, take the gradient tool and play around with gradients to find one that looks good with your image.
Almost done! Here I've used some tiny text brushes from Celestial Star on a new layer, and set it to soft light. Now, to make the final border, just make a new layer, go to Edit>Stroke, set it to 1 px black, and set the layer to overlay.
There you have it! A new icon. Don't forget to experiment yourself! Play around with different textures, blending options, and filters. Pretty soon you might find something new! :D
