Fusion News
Fusion News is just like Cutenews, but it's so much easier to work with. It's also a bit more reliable than Cutenews. Well, that's what I think, but others would disagree. :P This guide will tell you how to install Fusion News on your own webiste, in case you're having trouble.
Theres only one little thing I don't like about Fusion News, and that is that you can't write a news post and save it for later, or tell it what time to post the news. But, that's just one little detail that isn't really needed.
One thing you should make sure before installing Fusion News is that your host allows PHP. If it does not, you can not install Fusion News on your site.
How to Install
What you have to do first is download the zip file from fusionnews. Go to the Fusion News website and download the zip file on that page. Be sure to download the "Full Download" and not the "Upgrade Files." xD
Now that you have the files, unzip the folder you downloaded, and there should be two folders inside, "docs" and "upload." You need to upload the "upload" folder and ONLY that folder. You can ignore the "docs" folder, as it's not really needed. Rename the "upload" folder to "fusionnews" and upload it to your site with your FTP client. For those of you who don't know what FTP is, it's what you use to upload your files. Some hosts have FTP built in, so you don't have to download one. :P
Now, in your FTP, you should have a new directory called "fusionnews" with all those files you just uploaded. To make things easy, CHMOD all your files to 777. To do this, you highlight as many files as you like, right click, and depending on your FTP program, you either click properties or something that says CHMOD etc. A dialogue box will pop up and you'll see 9 check boxes. You need to check every one of them, and press ok. This shouldn't take more than two minutes. :P
Now, type in your url with "fusionnews" after it (http://www.example.com/fusionnews) and you follow the directions from there.
Once it's installed, it will tell you to delete the "install.php" file, do so and you can log into your account!
But, you still have to put the news on your site so that people can read it! You can go to the "Help/Update" section to get some codes to put on your page where you want the news to show. If you named your folder "fusionnews" like said in this tutorial, place the following code right where you want your news to show:
You also HAVE to change the page's extention with the news to php, or else it won't show. For example, if you want your news showing on your homepage, rename your homepage to "home.php" instead of "home.html." Nothing else has to be changed on that page, only the extention. HTML still works fine on .php pages. Also, you do not need to change every page of your site to php, only that page. If your site is already in PHP, then you're all set! :P
That's all there is to it! If you get weird mixed up looking text on your page instead of news, then you probably have some problems with the code or your PHP code that shows your news. You should recheck it before asking questions. If you still have problems, email me for questions! ^^
