How to Install
Webmasters who are looking to install Cutenews often don't understand the directions. It took me a few days to figure it out, and that was in a second attempt. The first time I gave up... xD BUT, you don't have to! I've made some more "understandable" directions on how to install Cutenews right here! ^^
First, you need to get all those Cutenews files. Go to the Cutenews official site and download the latest version of Cutenews to your desktop. After you unzip the folder, you need to upload the folder to your web hosting account. You need to use an FTP program for this. If you don't know what this is, or you don't have FTP, look up "free ftp clients" on Google to find some (take your time with this, choose the one right for you).
Have you looked around in that little folder? Yeah, it's filled with tons of files. When you first click in the cutenews folder, inside will be a file called "index.php". You need to CHMOD that file to 777. To do this, you right click on the file, and depending on your FTP program, you either click properties or something that says CHMOD etc. A dialogue box will pop up and you'll see 9 check boxes. You need to check every one of them, and press ok. Now that the index file is done, you must now do the same exact thing with all the files in the "data" folder. Yeah, it's a lot, I know... but it doesn't take too long, really. xD
Now, type in your url with cutenews after it (http://www.example.com/cutenews). Now you may configure as you please!
But wait! It's not on your page yet! So how do you get your news on your page? Go to the Cutenews Readme and pick out one of the php codes about halfway down the page. Put the code exactly where you want your news to appear. For example, I use:
...for my code. But, you have to change it to fit your path to the "show_news.php" file. So mine is:
That's all there is to it! If you get weird mixed up looking text on your page instead of news, then you probably have some problems with the code or your CHMODing. You should recheck it before asking questions. If you still have problems, email me for questions! ^^
