Gimp Scanline Tutorial

See those pale little lines? Those are scanlines. They add a little spoof to an image!

Open a new 4x4 image (transparent background) and zoom in to 800. Take the pencil tool and make one of the images below...

Now, save your image as whatever.pat on your desktop. Now minimize gimp, and go find the Gimp folder in your harddrive. I go to Program Files>Gimp>Share>Gimp>2.0>Patterns. Move your whatever.pat into this folder. Now go back to your image that you want to fill with this pattern. I'm using this simple little image:

You may have to restart GIMP for your pattern to appear. But now you may go to the layer you want to fill, select the pattern tool and your new pattern and go to Edit>Fill with Pattern.

Okay, now it looks like you killed the image. Not to worry, play with the blending options (the dropdown menu under the 'Layers' tab in the layers dialog box) and pick one that you like. I chose soft light for this:

There you have it! Your very own pretty little image with pretty little lines! *brick'd*
